Full-time - Basingstoke Town 5 Reading XI 0
A very comfortable afternoon for Town, who impressed, especially in the first half, admittedly against a weak Reading outfit. Plenty of cause for optimism though.
See The Monday Gazette for a full report and all of the reaction.
90 min - Little grazes the top of the crossbar with a free-kick from 30 yards.
85 min - Stefan Brown should add to the Town tally but he fails to react quick enough to Warner's ball across goal, chesting the ball wide when he probably should have headed it.
Town goal - Sam-Yorke uses his strength to hold off a defender before beating Smith with a low angled shot.
77 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 5 (Sam-Yorke) Reading XI 0
70 min - Sam-Yorke outmuscles his marker before taking aim for the far post, his shot rolling narrowly wide.
61 min - Reading get between the lines in midfield and Sheppard gets in behind the Town defence, but his shot finds only the side netting. Town make a change, replacing Patterson with Campbell and moving Stuart Lake to centre-back.
57 min - Reading's D'Ath crosses from the right and Taylor's header forces a decent save out of Joe McDonnell, who tips the ball over the bar. Reading have made a few changes and look a far better side now.
54 min - Warner puts in a free-kick from the left and it reaches Ross Adams at the far post - but his goalbound header is blocked.
45 min - Reading begin the second half. It's 4-4-2 for Town, with youngster Kieron Maylan at right-back and Matt Warner on the right wing. Stefan Brown and Delano Sam-Yorke are partnered together in attack, while trialist Will Tickle is on the left wing.
Team news - Town are almost completely changing their team, with only Chris Patterson remaining from the first half.
Town second half team: McDonnell, Maylan, Adams, Patterson, Little, Warner, Lake, Dunn, Tickle, Sam-Yorke, Brown.
Half-time - Basingstoke Town 4 Reading XI 0
That's a perfect first 45 minutes of pre-season for Town, although Reading have been poor, especially defensively.
Town goal - And it's exactly the same as the second. Reading defence are caught high up the pitch and Daly finds Holder-Spooner in behind. His first touch is a good one, taking him past Smith and he taps into the empty net for his hat-trick.
40 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 4 (Holder-Spooner hat-trick) Reading XI 0
Town goal - Another fine pass from Daly puts Holder-Spooner in behind. He cuts inside right-back Arnold before firing home at the near post.
37 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 3 (Holder-Spooner) Reading XI 0
35 min - A wonderful ball from Wes Daly finds Holder-Spooner in behind. His first touch is good but the ball just will not sit down and his shot is deflected wide. Town fashion a shooting chance for Daly from the resulting corner and his swerving effort from the edge of the area only just flies over.
32 min - Arnold lets fly from distance but it's straight at Bayes.
28 min - Reading right-back Nick Arnold gets into a good position but sees his shot deflected over.
Town goal - The hosts break through McAuley, who plays the perfect through-ball for Holder-Spooner. He times his run well to collect the ball before holding off Michael Hector and slotting home past Reading goalkeeper Grant Smith.
25 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 2 (Holder-Spooner) Reading XI 0
23 min - Reading have improved since going behind, with midfielder Taylor pulling the strings. His cross from the edge of the area finds Carl Saunders at the far post but the striker can only head into the side netting.
20 min - Jay Gasson has to be alert to clear the danger after Jake Taylor's attempted shot turns out to be a good pass for Lawson D'Ath.
13 min - Reading's Craig Tanner shoots from a free-kick but it's straight down the throat of Ashley Bayes.
Town goal - McAuley is given too much time to cross from the right and Sills gets up above his marker to send a looping header back across goal and in at the near post.
9 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 1 (Sills) Reading XI 0
5 min - Good play in the left corner from Holder-Spooner and John leads to Holder-Spooner finding Sills in the area. His shot on the turn is always going over but it's a good start by the hosts.
2 min - Shaun McAuley unleashes the first shot of the match but his effort from 25 yards flies well over the Reading goal.
1 min - Town get the game under way, kicking towards the Clubhouse End of the ground in the first half. Looks like it's 3-5-2 for Town, with Jordace Holder-Spooner partnering Tim Sills in attack.
Team news - Town will feature a number of trialists including left-back Diak John, centre-back Chris Patterson, striker Will Tickle and the returning Toby Little. It's a young Reading side that includes former Basingstoke loanee Angus McDonald.
Town: Bayes, Smart, John, Rice, Patterson, Gasson, Daly, McAuley, Sills, Holder-Spooner, Campbell. Subs: McDonnell, Maylan, Adams, Little, Warner, Lake, Dunn, Tickle, Sam-Yorke, Brown.
